At the career fair, I was introduced to the professional services offered by Altus and the comprehensive training offered to employees. It was truly an eye-opener as it was my first time to learn the role of a corporate financier and an IPO sponsor. This encounter ignited my interest to further explore the opportunity to work at Altus. The application process was straightforward, one week after submitting my application, I got invitation from Altus for an interview. Our two Executive Directors, Arnold and Sean and our Assistant Director, Leo interviewed me. The whole interview process was informal yet informative. The main purpose of the interview was to get to know my background, my knowledge of corporate finance, and the sponsor role, and my career plans. My tip for the interview? Be your true self. Do not worry if you know very little about corporate finance. Ever since I have started at Altus, I have been exposed to various aspects of corporate finance including sponsorship, compliance advisory and independent financial advisory. Such exposures expand my horizons and enable me to learn knowledge from different aspects such as the Listing Rule, business operation of companies from different industries, analysis of financial figures and etc. Moreover, I have participated in numerous projects involving a diversity of professional parties such as lawyers, auditors, industry experts, internal control consultants and etc. These connections with different parties definitely expand my network and equip me with a solid foundation for future career development. <br><br>\r\n\r\nIn addition, I was given a lot of responsibilities at Altus. Apart from having systematic training sessions, training at Altus encompasses to exposure of decision making and overseeing part of an entire project. It is a very steep learning curve and I have to adjust to work under pressure quickly. When I first joined Altus, I was surprised by the working culture as everyone here was so nice and we are all like a family. With the support from my seniors <br><br> \r\n I am able to gain exposure beyond my expectations as a junior and the learning curve in Altus is very steep. Armed with the courage to ask, I have been able to pick up technical skills in terms of knowledge on the Listing Rules and relevant regulations as well as my commercial sense. In addition, through working and liaising with different parties, such as accountants, lawyers and property valuers, I have been able to sharpen my soft skills which are fundamental to advance along my career path. <br><br>\r\n Having been in Altus for more than a year, I have the opportunities to participate in various projects involving companies of different industries, as well as working with other professionals. From performing due diligence of a company to drafting a prospectus, from reviewing legal opinion to analysing financial figures, I was exposed to a wide variety of corporate exercises. These trainings cover a wide variety of topics which are all related to the corporate finance industry that aim to strengthen our soft skills and knowledge. From time to time, we may invite professionals from other industries, such as property valuers or lawyers, to give us training on specific topics. Whilst trainings may be hosted by our seniors on topics ranging from rules and regulations updates, to skills on prospectus drafting or even how to be a team player\/leader. All these trainings are very practical to our daily works and are able to enhance our expertise. <br><br>\r\n Besides, Altus also support corporate financers on off-the-job professional accounting (CPA) training. Albeit we are not an accounting firm, I found such knowledge very useful as we are required to study the financial statements of a company, or even liaising with professional accountants during an IPO.
